Why Yoga?
Yoga is an antidote to modern life. The mortgage, gas prices, as well as those nagging pains that never seem to go away – all of these things chip away at our happiness and sense of peace. Yoga is a way to bring back a feeling of calm and wellness, as well as providing an excellent form of exercise.
What if I’m not athletic?
Do not expect to be folded up like a pretzel during your first class. (Or even your 100th class!)
Part of the beauty of yoga is that each class allows students to proceed at his/her own pace. The instructor is a key part of this, helping the student adapt to poses comfortably.
Is this a "girl" thing? Do guys do yoga?
Yoga is not just for women. Men have short hamstrings and back pain as well.
Don’t be intimidated by all those ladies out posing you. You will be able to redeem yourself at home with all that extra energy and flexibility.
Seriously, athletes in virtually all sports use yoga to help enhance flexibility, decrease injury potential, and strengthen the muscle groups that are not developed through their sport. Best of all, yoga does not require the wearing of lycra. (But go ahead if you want.)
What do I need for a class?
Wear clothes that allow you to move, but keep in mind that some poses will have you reaching for your toes, and baggy t-shirts have a tendency to ride up over your head. A yoga mat is essential, and while we provide them for your use at the studio, it’s a little like using someone else’s towel. (We sell new, clean ones at the studio!) Shoes are not used during yoga.
Why Deep Dog Yoga?
We started Deep Dog Yoga as an alternative to health club yoga. There are no mirrors, no lines of people on treadmills looking in at your class while you’re bent over, and the studio is not used for aerobics or any other activity. Our goal was to provide a studio with a spa-like feel, a place to go to unwind, find some peace while building your fitness.
Although this is not exactly news, we found that yoga worked for us. It is the only activity that we have found that provides both a workout and a profound sense of tranquility. It is our desire to share this.
